Immigrating to Canada
IELTS is recognised by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and Immigration Quebec as proof of English Language proficiency. When you have completed your IELTS test, you will receive paper documentation of your score called a Test Report Form (TRF). Your TRF can be used to support a range of immigration applications including: Express Entry (Skilled Immigrants), Quebec-selected skilled workers, and the Provincial Nominee program.
Express Entry, which is the most common route for applying for permanent residence, is an online system that manages applications through three economic programs.
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
- Canadian Experience Class

Which IELTS exam do I take for a job?
The IELTS General Training test is for people looking to work in Canada. It is specifically designed to assess your English in workplace environments. For example, the situations that might come up in your IELTS test could include:
- working with customers in shops, restaurants, or cafés
- communicating with your team members in an office environment
- clearly communicating when writing or replying to emails.
